About STRALERS

An independent eye.
An open world.

Essays, fiction, art, people and the ideas that connect them. A free-to-read magazine for curiosity without borders.

The founder

Founded and edited by Marius Nicolaas, a Cape Town-based writer, designer and entrepreneur, STRALERS brings an independent eye to an international conversation.

Our cause

We are developing a social-purpose initiative centred on foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), with the intention of using the publication’s reach to support affected people and families. The charitable structure and partnerships are still being developed; further details will follow as they are confirmed.

An open invitation 02

Something we
should read?

We’re inviting distinctive voices for our first edition. Essays, fiction and ideas that refuse to stay in their lane. Read STRALERS’ editorial brief and tell us what you have in mind.

The editorial brief

An original voice.
A point of view.

Start with an idea, not a finished manuscript.

01

Let curiosity lead.

We’re interested in essays, fiction and ideas across art, culture, design, people, places and the unexpected connections between them. Write for an international reader: attentive, intelligent and open to surprise.

02

Pitch first.

Tell us what you want to explore, the approach you would take and why it belongs in STRALERS. Include a short introduction and, if you have them, links to a few examples of your work. For fiction, introduce the story and its intended length.

03

Clear terms. Before we begin.

Any paid or voluntary terms, and publication rights, will be agreed before a commission. Submitting a pitch does not transfer ownership of your work.
